Team Vietnam has successfully defeated India 3-1 in the second Group C match of the AFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers second round, held in Uzebistan.
Team Vietnam was desperate to stage a comeback after their 0-1 loss to host Uzbekistan.
It took only four minutes for Vietnam to take the lead in the match held on Sunday. Vietnam’s captain Huynh Nhu nodding home Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung's cross gave the team the first goal.
In the 22nd minute, a header was scored by a diving Tran Thi Hai Linh.
Team India made a few changes as the second half began but the Vietnamese side did not give them a chance. In the 73rd minute, Vietnam scored another goal which was a header by substitute Pham Hai Yen.
India’s Sandhiya Ranganathan scored India’s maiden goal in the game in the 80th minute.
Going ahead, the Vietnamese team will go up against the strongest team of Group C – Japan, who won the Women’s Football Gold Medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games, in the last match of the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifiers second round on Nov. 1.
