WBF signs MoU with Moonsook Science Foundation in Korea

On March 13, 2024, The Women’s Bioscience Forum signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) alongside the Moonsook Science Foundation in order to empower female bio-scientists in Korea in addition to their achievements.

Women’s Bioscience Forum exclaimed that the ceremony took place in Seoul at the foundation’s office in Korea University. The foundation also agreed to sponsor the annual Saebyul Award. This award was initiatied by WBF in the year 2005 in order to honour young female bioscientists in Korea and celebrate their achievements in addition to support women’s advancement in the scientific community. Till date, 56 female scientists in total have received this award.

Baik Ja-hyun, president of Women’s Bioscience Forum, said in a statement, “We’re glad to be able to continue discovering new generations of talented female scientists through this MOU. It is especially more meaningful that the Saebyul Award will be handed out with the sponsorship of the Moonsook Science Foundation, which has run its scholarship and research programs for a long time.”

In 2024, 5 female life scientists shall get a 1 million won ($760) and 2 million won as scholarships. Amongst those 5 females, 3 of them are taking doctorate courses and 2 post-doctoral courses.

The 2024 Saebyul Awards shall take place in September at Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies in Seoul, Korea.
