White House to Host First Conference on Women's Health Research

As per the details shared with The Hill, the first-ever White House Conference is going to be hosted on Women’s Health Research by President Biden and first lady Jill Biden. The conference shall witness the involvement of Business and philanthropic leaders in addition to academic researchers, women’s health advocates, investors as well as federal agency representatives.

As stated by White House official, these group of attendees shall discuss on topics like scientific innovations with regards to women’s health care and business of investing in women’s health.

In addition, an initiative has been launched by Biden administration in 2023 that aimed at closing the gap in women’s health research which has been continuing for decades now. An executive order has also been issued by Biden early in 2024 that directs towards agencies to accelerate/expand research on health of women while strengthening their data collection to “prevent, diagnose, and treat conditions” which affects females uniquely/differently than men.

Health conditions majorly affecting females have been under-researched while historically been underfunded in comparison to studies that examines diseases alongside health conditions primarily impacting men.

In both private and public sectors, women’s health research has been underfunded. National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine’s recent report has found that around 9% of the research of National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) spending between 2013 and 2023 went to health research of females.
