Women Building Peace Award 2024 to honour Civil Society's Women

In a recent statement by U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP), it has been announced that the nominations for the 2024 Women Building Peace Award is open. This particular award is dedicated to honour civil society’s courageous women who are building peace in countries which are affected by violent conflict. The nominations shall be open till June 10, 2024.

 U.S. Institute of Peace is inviting people and organisation globally, to participate in the identifying and honouring exceptional women in the sector. The awardee shall receive a cash prize during the event and will be recognized in Washington, DC.

Some of the criteria for the nominations are:

1. Nominee's commitment to peace,

2. Exceptional leadership,

3. Outstanding practice in putting a peacebuilding plan into action

4. Impact of her work.

A group of experts, Women Building Peace Council will be choosing the 2024 award winner. This group has been advising USIP on matters of gender and peacebuilding. Some of the previous Women Building Peace Award’s recipients are:

1. Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Pétronille Vaweka

2. Colombia’s María Eugenia Mosquera Riascos

3. Kenya’s Josephine Ekiru

4. South Sudan’s Rita Lopidia

In addition to these, a set of 24 women were also recognized as finalists of USIP for the award in the span of 4 years.
