On February 25, 2024, Black History Month program has been hosted by Women Entrepreneurs Matter at sharp 3 p.m. at downtown South Bend’s CLC Ballroom. The Program had a theme of “Creating our Own Legacy.” The day was a celebration day for all the Black people for their attainments over the years.

Dr. Vida Harley who’s the President of Women Entrepreneurs Matter expressed, “it’s going to be a fun day celebrating the Black culture. It will be three hours long jammed-packed hip-hop and celebration of Black history.”

She added, “I’m talking about creating our own legacy, we are so appreciative of our ancestors that came before us and sacrificed so much for us. But I want people to know that you can create your own legacy because when we’re gone in 10-15 years from now, people will know that we were the leaders of today. That's one of things that I’m really pushing people to really look at your own and create your own legacy,”

The Black people have always been innovative and creative. To continue the legacy and showcase the Black heritage this program included an extensive entertainment, talent show performed by dancers, singers, local poets followed by a fashion show.

The program carried an award function called the ‘We Matter Awards ceremony’. The award ceremony honoured leaders with 18 awards who have contributed to the South Bend community. In addition to the award ceremony, there was a Hip-Hop performance to acknowledge the Hip-Hop culture’s influence on the society in a Quinquennium.

This turned out to be a great event for the business owners and leaders who belongs to this community and the showcasing of the talent resulted in a big celebration.
