Deloitte has estimated that annual worldwide income for women's elite sports would cross the billion-dollar mark for the first time in 2024, in a game-changing development for the industry. The estimated income of US$1.28 billion, taken from matchday profits, broadcast, and commercial sources, represents a spectacular "at least 300 percent higher" gain above three-year values.
Jennifer Haskel, Deloitte's Sports Business Group insight lead, emphasized the increasing notion of women's sports as a distinct and different product apart from men's top sports. The increase in fan and investor participation has been cited as a trigger for the greater prospects in women's sports for teams and leagues.
The majority of the money, 55 percent, is expected to come from commercial deals made by leagues and clubs, with broadcast revenue accounting for the remaining 27 percent. Matchday income is predicted to increase by 5% starting in 2023, accounting for 19% of the total pool.
Soccer and basketball are the frontrunners in the revenue race for women's sports in 2024, accounting for 71% of total global revenue. According to Deloitte, women's elite sports will benefit from more prime time broadcast opportunities in 2024, increasing accessibility and audience for these events. The estimate represents a big step forward in the worldwide recognition and economic growth of women's sports.
