World Bank reveals New Report disclosing Massive Global Gender Gap

The World Bank has published a new report entitled as ‘Women, Business, and the Law’. The report unveils facts about the gender gap in the workplace. According to the report, women still face challenges and legal hurdles that hampers their participation in the workforce.

Women on average enjoy the rights far less than men i.e., 64% while addressing legal disparities regarding childcare and violence. Previously studies suggested that 77% of the legal protections are enjoyed by men.

The ‘Women, Business, and the Law’ report spill beans on the gender disparities in different countries. There is not even one country that provides equal opportunities to women.

World Bank Group’s Chief Economist and Senior Vice President for Development Economics, Indermit Gill said in a statement, “Women have the power to turbocharge the sputtering global economy. Yet, all over the world, discriminatory laws and practices prevent women from working or starting businesses on an equal footing with men.”

He continued, “Closing this gap could raise global gross domestic product by more than 20% – essentially doubling the global growth rate over the next decade—but reforms have slowed to a crawl. WBL 2024 identifies what governments can do to accelerate progress toward gender equality in business and the law.”

Countries provide even less than 40% of the necessities even after knowing that women get to enjoy only 2/3 of men’s rights. This report focuses on the urgent need to take necessary steps and close the gender gap in workplaces.
