Below is an excerpt of Ivana Ridler’s exclusive interaction with The Global Women Leader magazine. What have been some of the most crucial junctures throughout your professional journey?
Throughout my professional journey, several pivotal moments stand out. The first was joining American investment bank in M&A, where I thrived in a highly competitive and challenging environment. Early recognition of my success came when I was fast-tracked at promotion, an achievement that highlighted the power of competence and dedication. Transitioning into private equity was another turning point, where I had the privilege of learning from industry leaders. This role allowed me to shape companies and industries, which ultimately fueled my passion for value creation. The culmination of these experiences was founding my own firm, where I applied years of knowledge and expertise to build something truly meaningful.
What led you to establish Sidro Advisors & Capital Partners? What is the underlying idea behind the venture and its key areas of areas of expertise?
The founding of Sidro Advisors & Capital Partners was driven by a significant lifestyle change. After spending over 20 years in London and New York, my husband and I decided to return to continental Europe, settling in Vienna. Both of us, passionate about the industry, were not ready for early retirement but instead wanted to shape the future of advisory and investment. Having observed the shifting landscape, we saw a gap in the market - where CEOs of both large and founder-led businesses sought more than generic, standardized advice. They needed tailored, strategic guidance for value creation and long-term impact. Thus, Sidro was born.

Throw some light on the major challenges you encounter in your current role? How do you overcome the said roadblocks?
One of the biggest challenges I have faced in my career is navigating a male-dominated industry, where being underestimated is common. Overcoming this has always been about proving my worth through perseverance and consistently demonstrating my expertise. It is essential to show dedication and knowledge will outshine doubt. Another challenge is balancing family life with a demanding career. As a mother of three, it is important to stay present for both my children and my work. On a larger scale, dealing with external factors, like unforeseen macroeconomic shifts or changes in regulations, requires adaptability and foresight. Navigating these obstacles has strengthened my ability to manage complex scenarios and maintain long-term success.
In your opinion what have been the biggest ‘wins’ that you have achieved so far in your professional journey?
One of my biggest wins was being recognized by my peers for successfully completing high-impact transactions. Also, seeing value possibilities in investments, working with management towards that common goal, and then over time helping companies achieving their potential and see them thrive, has been extremely fulfilling. Another key achievement has been the opportunity to mentor younger professionals in the industry, which is both humbling and fulfilling. Being seen as a leader and contributing to shaping the industry has been incredibly rewarding. On a personal level, founding my own successful firm has been a major milestone, providing the freedom to pursue other interests, such as serving on supervisory boards and being involved with the Tate Museums in the UK. These experiences have truly defined my career successes.
What has been your ‘success mantra’ as a leader?
My success mantra is simple: believe in your abilities and stay focused on the bigger picture. When challenges arise, face them with resilience, and keep moving forward. Success should be met with humility and respect, never forgetting the journey. It's also crucial to support others, especially through mentorship and guidance. I am passionate about helping women break barriers and shatter glass ceilings in male-dominated industries. Leading with both perseverance and empathy has been key to my approach.
