Healthcare has formed an enormous area of concern in Nigeria. Over the past decade, there have been major attempts to strengthen healthcare in the country and move towards universal healthcare. Healthcare leaders have been pivotal in driving these changes, spearheading initiatives to enhance accessibility, quality, and affordability of healthcare services. Mobolaji Ajayi's early experiences influenced her path into the healthcare industry. Her brother's heart ailment made her aware of the challenging conditions of Nigeria's healthcare system. Embarking on a distinctive exchange with The Global Women Leader magazine, Mobolaji divulges the intricate facets of her transformative journey as a prominent leader in Nigeria. Let's explore further.

Tell us about Purelife Health. What are some of the key responsibilities that you shoulder as the company’s CEO?

Purelife Health is saving patient time and simplifying access to primary healthcare through physical and online options of integrative pharmacy and telemedicine platform. We offer a comprehensive suite of services such as e-commerce, medication delivery, telemedicine consultations, vaccinations, medication therapy management, health education programs, and diagnostic services. We have noticed that many people bypass proper lab tests and consultations, leading to antimicrobial resistance and incorrect dosages. This is where Purelife steps in to address this guesswork in medication usage, by making it easy to book diagnostic tests online, have samples collected at home, receive results, and consult with specialized doctors. As the CEO of Purelife Health, I implement strategic leadership and oversee business development, patient care, advocacy, and partner engagement. This involves partnerships with other healthcare providers, insurers, HMOs, and government bodies. I also stay informed about the latest healthcare trends and innovations so that we can incorporate them for smooth functioning. Another important part of my role involves integrating technology into our services to streamline our processes.

Tell us about your current focus areas and priorities in terms of driving growth for Purelife Health.

My primary area of focus is on driving growth through a series of initiatives that are designed to enhance our service delivery. We aim to meet the evolving needs and spread the message of accessible healthcare across Nigeria and Africa. For this, we aim to leverage local consumer insights and technological advancements to develop solutions that can address a broader spectrum of health needs. We are actively working on expanding our services and want to provide a continuum of care that spans from early-life nutrition to therapeutic care for older adults. We are also implementing growth strategies around rapid innovation, personal efficiency, and disciplined resource allocation through the use of digital platforms. This will allow us to make better and faster decisions that align with the changing needs of a diverse customer base. We are deeply committed to advancing health equity, increasing health literacy, and addressing the social determinants of health.

What are some of the major challenges that you encounter as a healthcare leader?

I have witnessed numerous challenges as a healthcare leader and an entrepreneur in Nigeria. One of the major challenges is staffing. Finding skilled professionals for our team has been a persistent hurdle. This is due to mass migration out of Nigeria, which is also known as the Japa Syndrome. It has led to many talented, smart, and hard-working professionals leaving the country in search of better opportunities.

"We aim to create a more health-conscious & equitable world, ultimately improving the quality of life for all our users"

In your opinion what have been the biggest ‘wins’ that you have achieved so far in your professional journey?

The biggest professional win for me has been the ability to successfully deliver a wide range of services to customers across Nigeria. We have numerous testimonials and feedback from those using our web app to express their positive experience with us. The fact that Purelife Health has come through as an accessible healthcare for our users is a big milestone for me.

In today's tumultuous business landscape, how can healthcare leaders ensure the success of their respective organizations?

I have learned that adaptability and innovation are crucial in today's tumultuous business landscape. Healthcare leaders must adopt innovative technologies such as telemedicine to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. I also advocate effective communication, collaboration, and strategic partnership for growth and sustainability. By collaborating with other healthcare providers, technology companies, and government bodies, we can expand our reach and improve the quality of care we provide. Last but not least, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and training, helps create a dynamic and effective workforce.

Message for aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs: Embrace continuous learning as your compass, to adapt, evolve, and grow.
