Below is an excerpt of Shayna Rose’s exclusive interaction with The Global Women Leader magazine.

Take us through the formative years of your life. What were some key early influences in life that shaped you as an individual?

In 2017, I founded Shayna Rose Interiors, specializing in high-end custom home furnishings after working for an interior design firm in the Hamptons. Frustration with long lead times and a subsequent accident led me to seek a fractional team of experts who could address the intricacies of my industry. After numerous challenges and with a vision in mind, I launched 4DBIZ in 2020, standing for FOR Designer Business. It offers both a custom technology and a fractional team that caters to the needs of interior designers. This innovative solution grants control over deadlines, delegation, and financial insights, empowering designers to thrive. 4DBIZ embodies the culmination of my journey, providing a comprehensive and flexible support system for interior designers, helping them navigate the complexities of their profession with efficiency and confidence.

What are your focus areas in terms of driving growth for the company as the CEO?

Our current focus centres on establishing a robust technological foundation to support interior design businesses effectively. While we already have a solid baseline of technology in place, we're continually developing tools crucial for business success. For instance, we recently introduced a complimentary retainer management tool. This empowers business owners to efficiently manage their projects, from setting retainers to task delegation and tracking time allocation. As projects progress and hours are logged, the tool automatically updates the retainer balance. It even sends timely email reminders as the retainer approaches depletion. In our pipeline, we plan to enhance collaboration with the enhancement of adding employee seats, integrate invoicing, and bolster tracking features, all aimed at simplifying and streamlining interior design operations. Whether business owner is delegating to the 4DBIZ team or delegating to their employees, the 4DBIZ technology will track and manage in one cohesive platform.

Throw some light on the major business challenges you encounter as a business leader in interior design. How do you overcome the said roadblocks?

As our business grows, we encounter new challenges, which I see as a sign of progress. Staffing and tight training are among our key concerns. The experience for clients must remain consistent, regardless of the team members they work with. We face unique challenges with our virtual team, predominantly comprising stay-at-home moms. Maternity leaves are frequent, and we support each other by sharing workloads. Our flexible work schedule is a plus, but responsible growth is a priority. To address these issues, we're dedicating specific team members to handle hiring and training, streamlining our training process with an efficient program to ensure new additions swiftly integrate into our team.

“Interior design is challenging as workflow ebbs and flows. Finding a fractional team of experts matched with technology that maintains control is critical to a business owners success and growth”

In your opinion what are some of the most significant ‘wins’ that you have achieved throughout your professional journey?

Professionally, my entrepreneurial journey has been an exhilarating ride. Initially, I sought the guidance of a coach to channel my ambitions effectively. The journey commenced with a remarkable milestone, securing a partnership with a workroom to offer clients a one-week rush program for custom products, a rarity in my industry.

Another significant leap was creating a modular platform bed line that allowed for customizable configurations to adapt to client's evolving needs. Venturing into e-commerce, I established partnerships with wholesalers, expanding our product range. Simultaneously, the development of 4DBIZ, a centralized control centre, revolutionized our approach. Individual login portals, assignment management, and comprehensive reporting now unite our geographically dispersed team. 4DBIZ provides the fractional human support business owners need for design, administrative, marketing and business operations support matched with a cutting edge technology. This marks a significant milestone in our journey, reflecting our commitment to innovation in the interior design realm.

In your opinion what defines you as a leader?

I believe it's my aptitude for problem-solving. As my CMO often remarks, when confronted with a problem, I tend to excel. My mind delves into generating numerous potential solutions, and then I meticulously sift through and fine-tune each option, persisting until I identify the one that resonates as the most appropriate choice. I also strongly believe every individual has strengths and weakness and am passionate about pulling on individuals strengths and letting them shine. A leader is not strong without a team that is equally as strong behind them.
